Spirituality Centre in Limerick gets busy

cd_and_dm_01.jpgParents from the Crescent recently attended the Jesuit Centre of Spirituality in Limerick for a retreat in daily life. Liam O’Connell SJ and Dermot Murray SJ each directed a number of participants. Another such retreat will be organised in May. Also, Dermot Murray and Charlie Davy animated an afternoon of personal prayer, group-sharing and Mass, on the theme of being ‘ambassadors for Christ’, for a group of six people on Sunday 10th. This was the third meeting of this group since last December. The group hopes to expand to about twelve members over the next few months. Next meeting is scheduled for 19 March.

Darwin, Dawkins and theology

scm_02.jpgOne of the world’s leading experts on evolution will take issue with Richard Dawkins’ views on science and God in a public lecture at the Davenport Hotel, Merrion Square, Dublin 2, on Thursday 21 February at 8.00pm. Simon Conway Morris, Professor of Evolutionary Palaeobiology at Cambridge, will speak about the current widespread misuse of Darwinian theory. According to Professor Conway Morris, theories of evolution that reduce man to the chance by-product of random, mindless processes are themselves a form of (highly debateable) theology. This is one of the key arguments advanced in his latest book, Life’s Solution: Inevitable Humans in a Lonely Universe. The lecture is being organised by Studies Quarterly Review and the Iona Institute, and all are welcome to attend.
